Beware of Confusion
Feeling unsure is essentially confusion, and I would like to talk to you about confusion today.
Confusion feels like a very innocent emotional or cognitive state to be in. What could be wrong with being confused?
Well, confusion is tricky, we often use it as a way to not take risks and do the work we know we need to do. The brain's main job is to save energy and by offering you confusion the brain is able to maintain its inaction.
In addition, confusion allows us to not face our fears. All of us have goals and dreams we want to accomplish, but the fear of failure is real. Confusion comes in and allows us not to have to take the leap.
In essence, confusion is failing ahead of time. By partaking in inaction you do not have to put yourself out there and face the possibility of failure. Instead, you keep your goals and dreams safe in your head and bubble wrap them in confusion.
I would like to suggest to you that you do know what the next step is in achieving your goals. When I have a client struggling with confusion (and we all do) I often ask them,
"Ok, but what would you do if you did know the answer?"
This switches our minds into a solutions-focused space, which has been shown to be more effective for problem-solving. And if we are honest with ourselves, we all know at least one correct step we can take right now. In a world, with Google and YouTube, you can figure out anything right?
Don't let confusion get the best of you. You know what to do, and you can do it. You have this!
